this is a recent game of mine between me and another 2200, i played a very offbeat variation of the nimzo and I'm not sure if it was correct or not, but needless to say i won from a nice tactic near the end.
here's the game I have some annotations with it:
this is one of my best games and it shows how Silman's book how to reassess your chess can help you make a plan, without silman's book i probably would have lost this! i recommand everyone to go out and read How to reassess your chess by IM Jeremy Silman to take your chess to a new level.
The odd-looking 12. c5 seems to be very strong for white. ... Black's structure will be compromised whether he captures or not (if he captures he'll be left with iso's, if not - white has excellent play down the c-file). Your move is less direct but also very strong.
15. Qd2 is okay. On 15. ... Bb7, f3!
16. f3 is a good move. It prepares e4 (typically, if you push in the center before your opponent gets a chance, you should have the edge) ... It also takes away several useful squares from black's pieces (he'll be focusing on piece play... you have a solid position and he has few practical ways to break it up).
22. e4! seems strong. White understands precisely WHY the doubled pawns are okay. White's added space in the center (and the bishop pair) allow for a kingside attack. This move begins to execute the correct plan: King hunting.
35. Bc5 followed by e6 is crushing.
Great game, excellent play. Now I see why I'm down two pawns in our game :).
One thing I should mention is that both the QID and the Nimzo are very reliable black defenses. The Nimzo is largely why I avoid 1. d4.
thanks for the comments matt i was looking at c5 i was planning to prepare it further with b4 but c5 immediately does look strong
The chess.com computer has absolutely no positional feel whatsoever.
i agree completely it has nowhere near the 2500 rating level of play i was promised, i'd rather they just put rybka in for their computer, because i don't have rybka and would love to see it's analyzation of my play.
its tactical play might be 2500 but its positional play is shocking
yeah but that doesn't equal 2500 rating level to have that high of a rating someone/something has to be good at all types of positions if this computer can only analyze tactical chessgames then over 50% of it's analyzation of my games are useless
That is correct. Solution: buy Rykba
