In that game the losing move for white was 7. Be3. The double isolated pawns only helped black.

The next game was a rematch where I played the white peices. The following happened:

In this game, the key mistake was 3. ... fxe6. Can you notice a similarity there? Both times the f pawn (moves up one space) took the pawn and left a Qh4/5 threat looming.

Well done Calum, but I think you should try out ways of raising your rating like studying grandmaster chess, spending a lot of time on not so obvious puzzles before looking at the solution and studying your games too like you did now but more oftenly. I guess that's the key for success. Analyzing your own great victories is really powerful to keep your selfconfidence high but you should try analyzing games you've lost and see what you did wrong.

    Keep kicking ass beautifully,

Would you believe I was looking at master games before I played these. I ended winning 5 online and losing 1 before I had to go!

well that's what I'm talking about. If you notice a very big majority of the players play on defense or maintain a solid position, waiting for the opponent to make a mistake. I totally recommend that to you too. When I started thinking like this my rating raised a lot.
