This was a fast game played moments ago outside chess.com. I'm sure that knight sac wasn't 100% solid, but it worked very well for me. I hope you enjoy watching the game as much as I did playing it.

9. Kf1 You comment that if g3 the rook is lost, however Kf1 is actually an even worse move! Because, as you show, after Ba6...

10. Ne2 You make no comment here, but this loses a rook and a queen. After Bc5 (nice move by the way) 11. g3 Qxe4 once again threatens mate, and the only way for them to stop it is Qd3, which loses them their queen! This is pretty much my only criticism, as you would have been a rook and a queen up!

Also, you mention the knight is pinned when you play Qf6+, but if they had played Bf4 they would have avoided mate completely (although being a bishop down.)

You would have had a won game anyway, but after 14... h5 you say you don't think they could stop mate-in-one, but this: 15. Qd8+ Kxd8 16. Rd1+ Ke8 17. Rd8+ Kxd8 18. Bg5+ Ke8 would have postponed mate by a few moves.

However, a very nice mate Smile It would have taken me a while to find that, let me tell you... In fact, I probably would have missed it. Tongue out

Seems quite sound to me - white can ignore it though with Nf3 (stopping the queen getting to the h4 square, threatening to win the knight with the pawn as it is now safe, and winning the pawn the black knight took back). I think Qe2 works too. But position still equal. Good spot!

thanx for your insights. I really didn't see 11.... Qxe4 and it was such a strong move. And like texaspete says, if he had ignored the knight and developed his queen, the game would have probably been equal.

it looked pretty solid to me... once the f2 pawn was out of the way and the h4-e1 diagonal was open and unprotected...  especially with the board so open for your bishops coupled with your queen to check their king.  by "fast" game do you mean with little time to start on the clocks or just a short game that was over quickly?

I've actually sacked a knight to start an attack in a similar manner.  usually as white though. 1. e4...e5 2. Nf3...f6 3. Nxe5...fxe5 4. Qh5...g6 5. Qxe5+...Be7 (or 5...Qe7) 6. Qxh8

Thanks for posting this.  this is an awesome game!

8. Nf3 Bc5 threatening the f2 square. The knight still can't be taken because of

9. dxe4 Bf2+ 10. Ke2 Ba6+ and white will have to part with the queen.

Omicron's immortal and  a nice game to watch. I don't like white's opening with very little development or king safety regard, but I enjoyed the nice and sharp tactical play by black, especially for a blitz game.

Yert - Yes, that line you posted is a good one for white if black happens to move the f pawn early. I believe I've had the chance to play it as well... or at least something simmilar

Loomis - Good call!, I don't think I would have seen that one if he played 8-Nf3

I'm glad you all guys found it entertaining.

Actually, you did have another direct way to finish him off after 14 g4:  there's a mate in 6 with 14... Qf3+ 15 Ng3 Bxg4+ 16 Kh4 Be7+ 17 Bg5 Bxg5+ 18 Kxg5 f6+ (or 18... h6+ or 18... Qf4+) 19 Kh4 g5.
