    i played two games in a row with the English Opening (1.c4). One with black pieces and one with white pieces. lately i have been playing the English opening alot and i just so happened to play an opponent that also was using the English. Im going to put up both games, feel free to post anything you want.

    in the first game black presents white with actacks on the kings side but white comes up with wrong answers. what should have white played to equalize the position?

    in the next game i play as white and use the English opening. Black accepts a poison pawn and is unable to maintain the advantage. you will see that white's pawn on d4 and the fianchettoed bishop dont move throughout the entire game, but notice what impact they still have on the position.

    nice to see some english its these days one of my favorites too.
    I miss the background by it but it leads often to games i like.
    at move 21 you went your queen to take the pawn c4;
    i didnt understand why play the queen?
    As Bishop c6 would have forked blacks rooks, which would result in a nice material win, did you miss it or was it part of a later plan?

    If 21. Bxc6, then black simply responds with 21... Nxc6.  White's bishop is better, plus that would develop black's knight; white does not want to play that.

    ok...so if white plays 21. Bxc6 this is what it would have looked like.

    so as you can see. Bxc6 would not have been horible. in fact it would have been an ok substitution. both lines were winning for white.

    on move 23 of the second game i say the material is even once again...this is a typo... white is ahead by two pawns... ignore that.
