    This is from a few months back. It's the second time I played a master under long time control and the first time I won.

    Very well done! It's interesting how easy it is for White to get his pieces tangled up in this line. It looks simple, but Black has a lot of dynamic chances. I used to play the French, over 20 years ago, and I always felt pretty comfortable as Black in this variation.

    11...g5 was impressive. Is that theory, or did you just come up with it>\?

    Bxf2+ is an awesome tactic!

    Was this a rated tournament game in an over the board game with clocks?

    What were the time controls?

    @paulgottlieb

    g5 is somewhat common in this variation of the french. The popular way to play right now I believe is actually 8...g5! The part I was most proud of is considering 11...g5 even though the d pawn was already en pris.

    Rated. I think it was G60. It was a one day four round masters invitational tournament and I was invited to play filler games in case an odd number turned out.

    Congrats! Beautiful game. 20... Bxf2, 21 Qxf2??  Rh1+ wins the Queen.

    Nice! Smile

    I also used to play the French and the Caro but somewhere along the way I lost them.

    If this a master's invitational and USCF or FIDE rated then these are published games.  Will you tell us where these games are published?

    USCF rated but I don't think it's published anywhere. There was no turning in of score sheets or anything like that.

    I probably would've grabbed the d pawn on move 11.  Kudos on a fine victory!!
