the idea of deflecting the king from e8 t0 f7 with a bishop sacrifice also occurs with the smith morra gambit as shown..

and yes I have caught out a few guys not too sure of the black moves. Wink

    In first game, 8. ... dxe5???

    In second game, 6. ...dxe5???

Other than that black played fine in both. Laughing (seriously, even without the blunder, black has quite a big positional disadvantage after moving the knight instead, in either game).

kinghadge, where is the evidence that the first game was ever played by Fischer? I have 28 examples in my unfiltered database, none of which involved Fischer, and I have never heard of such a game.

[Unsurprisingly, white did score 28/28, with black only playing on in 4 of the 28 games. 262 games reached the position after 8. e5!, so over 10% of players fell into the 2 move trap. White has had a chance to play 6. e5! 65 times in the Smith-Morra variant of the trap, and black has fallen into it 14 times, with half of players playing on. These games are not at a very high level Smile ].
