i must put my vote at the polish immortal. it amazes me every time =) black sacs all his pieces to open lines and then finishes the king with a pawn.

henry55: great game, whether it was played or not! After black's move 32, whiite has R+N+ 4 pawns, black has only 5 pawns, two of them are doubled isolated pawns - yet white is helpless precisely against these double isolated pawns!

Let's keep commenting on this and keep it up front, instead of being buried by new material.  It is so good.  People can find many of their favorite players here.

I can't believe nobody listed the "Game of the Century" -- Fischer's famous queen sac against Donald Byrne when he was only 13 years old:

Seriously, people. The Peruvian Immortal is by far the coolest. Perhaps not the greatest in terms of "chess masters", but truly the greatest in terms of sheer beauty.

The "Peruvian Immortal" is bogus -- the guy playing Black couldn't see a textbook tactic staring him in the face. This game does not even deserve to be called "good", since the opposition was substandard.

Sorry to rain on your parade, but I can't support that game.

Check out:  Milman v Fang   from the list above... I thought "two players I've never heard of: must be a good game." I wasn't disappointed -- the mating combination at the end is pure magic.

I don't think the game deserves to be anywhere near top either, but to say that a guy isn't a good player for missing a double Rook sac followed by a Queen sac is pretty ludicrus! lol

The double rook sac is merely a setup to the mating combination by deflecting the queen -- it is not very deep or difficult to see. The game is amateurish, and nothing to be particularly proud of.

Double B sac,King hunt and an X-ray mate.
Nimzowitsch vs Tarrasch, 1914

Always has been one of my favorites...I was nice to see Nimzo outdone by his own style of play.

What's so great about that game (Tal-Keres)? I mean, it isn't bad, but I wouldn't put it even neear the top 50 I've seen.
