Purely practical play. I played this guy before plenty of times, and he is always obsessed with trying to open up my king and crush me. The funny thing about that, however, is that I think my tactical ability is a little stronger than his....therefore rather than trying to protect my king, I give him everything he wants...

I think there is a limit to "compensation" activity alone cannot win a game. If your  compensation for material deficit cannot in the long run secure you a material advantage or a positional one or mate itself then it's simply a blunder. As Roman Dzinchichasvili put it here- black has the pawn AND the compensation (so to speak).

lmao, I know tons of people who are obsessed with the same exact things. I think it's the most hilarious thing in the world. It's like their goal is to just call check and look flashy as many times as possible during the game
