I just played (a couple months ago) in state high school OTB tournament.  I was board 3 on my team and so far I was +2-2=0 this was the last of five matches of the tournament so I was very tired and wasn't paying attention, I was making moves exceptionally fast and carelessly.  Enjoy!

by the end of round 2 the team I was on had 10 points, but after that we started to go downhill, playing some of the best teams. We took fifth of about 30 teams.

He was jumping up and down? You should have put a fist in his face! Or you could have told him or his coach that what he did was not professional and something to be ashamed of.

Your opponent was seriously 1400? He didn't play like it.

yeah, it was poor sportsmanship, but he didn't mean it maliciously.

Hmmm. My Junior and Senior years in HS I coached the chess team. Our fourth board played a similar game to this one. Got overly excited after the game (not maliciously), and made his opponent (a girl, not that that's important) cry.

I ran it past the principal and suspended the kid for two matches (because a student can't just bench another player).

I wanted the kids to understand that etiquette in chess, and golf for that matter, is as important as the actual game. You don't trash talk, distract, leave your cell phone on, celebrate inside the playing room, etc. because that is a simple disgrace to the wonderful and paradoxical game we love and hate.

Don't get me wrong here, I understand what you are saying here about this how is can hurt the other person feeling , so when Tiger Wood win his game and lots of other sportperson  sort of punch in the air (you know what I mean) saying *yes, yes got it!* showing is a great feeling of winnning would that be wrong ?

Well, in chess, success is in part due to your opponents failure. I might let it slide in chess if you make a brilliant queen sacrifice. But when Tiger nails a 20 footer, it's not due to his opponent's shortcomings, but rather because he is an incredible clutch putter.
