A game played on live here on Chess.com, and mated the king with none other than the lowly pawn.

wow! don't think I've ever seen a pawn mate before. ('course, it's not like I'm extensively experienced, but still....good game!)

His problem was not that he was playing on the queenside.  His problem was that he was playing poorly on the queenside.  It is typical to play on the side of the board where one can gain an advantage.  You had space on the kingside, he gained space on the queenside.  This is not the wrong way to play.  He needed to develop his pieces.  Also, your king was wide open, so he had options of where to play if he had just developed.

opponent is clearly not equal to you. Go back and look at that assessment of a trade. You would have lost two for one.

Better than 19.c3 was 19.Nxf6, when Black's knight on c6 hangs after the recapture.

Your annotation is crap, playing on the queenside while the other player attacks the kingside is perfectly reasonable, but still a good game

Yea, I know that playing on the queenside wasn't his problem, but still he didn't seem to want to defend the kingside.  There were several mistakes by me in the game, some of them fairly serious blunders, but I'm not used to playing whole game in under 5 mins.  Usually I'm a 15 minute or 10 minute player.  Also I saw the mate one move earlier, but like I said I wanted to end it with our queens side by side.

[EDIT: Just saw comments above - appologies! :) ]whites RxR was not necessary! :D

How else was he/she to end the game? IMHO If you can KO your opponent quickly then do it.

    Ok a classic puzzle:

White to play and mate in 4

I have to agree with the other comments. Playing on the opposite side of your opponent is not a problem, the problem was that he was playing poorly. Also, i wouldn't recommend that opening against anyone who knew what he was doing, as they can shatter it rather easily, it takes too many moves, and your king is very vulnerable. Still cool to mate with a pawn.
