I decided to start USCF correspondance chess, and i decided to really focus. Here is my first game (it hasnt actually concluded yet, but the last two moves are conditional moves and forced) and my first win! The second I am a full piece up and should win too... I'm excited!

Anyway, comments and constructive critisism appreciated!

cant annotate now, I might later :)

Was the correspondance through letters? If so, how did you obtain the address? I would love to begin correspondance games.

    Nice mate by the way.

Congratulations!  Cool  Well played!  I liked how you handled the poison pawn and blacks Queen down in the corner. I see why you favor move 18, pressuring the Q and baiting with the RP.  He shouldn't have grabbed the RP of course. Looks like backing his Q upto a3 then to c5 would have been better for him. But you had the right moves for what he played! Excellent!  BTW, which do you like better, the USCF correspondence or chess.com version? Smile

@knightrider thanks for the post! I take the USCF more seriously - I set a goal to work as hard as i can and obtain a Life Master title, but I'm not sure how realistic that goal is yet.

@Johnmusacha I have been a member for a year, with only 5 OTB games played, but I just started CC

Very nice game! Nd5 especially didn't look good from him, I guess that's such a bad move because he is never castling then. He played some bad moves towards the end but still a very satisfactory win Cool

@AcivilizedGentleman yeah I've never seen this before and the position is a advanced for my level. Next time i see my chess coach im going to ask him how to get better at these positions

You have to be a member of an organization such as USCF and sign up to play. Here is the information for the USCF's correspondence http://main.uschess.org/content/blogcategory/82/397/

My opponent was 1300 and my rating has not come out yet but shoould  be around 1700. I dont know about inflation, but as Seirawan once said, "Let the perfectionis play postal."

@john if you are interested in local tournaments or correspondence chess then joining the USCF would be a great idea

thanks dalephilly! It's been a while since I've talked to you, care for a turnbased game like we used to do?

I'd only have the guts to go into the poisoned pawn in a CC game, lol.  Congrats on your win :)

In your variation for black's 19th move you don't have to let him have the bishop, 24.Qf2 and the bishop is off limits due to a quick mate starting with Rg3+

Also 20...Ba7 looks odd to me (after all you just take it with check later).  I'd try 20...Be7 even though after Qc6+ and Rf3+ it looks like the same kind of mate is very close.

thanks wafflemaster for the comment - I did not see that 24.Qf2 line, thanks! and yeah Be7 does look like a better defense

Sure ChristianSoldier, just send me a challenge for a turn based game, and I'll gladly accept.  I know I haven't had as much time for chess these past few months, life just gets in the way sometimes.

Cool, I'm participating in the USCF E-Knights tournament. You get to play six games in round one and you need 4.5 points to move on to round two. So far I won one game by checkmate, one by forfeit and I lost one quickly and horribly. I'm expecting one more win also and the final two could probably go either way.

awesome browni good luck let me know how that goes. I don't want to go into a tournament yet, as my plan right now is to take it one 2 game match at a time and try to earn a title. When I get stronger I might enter the E-Knights
