well,

this was an online game.

i am sure there are errors.

there is what i would consider to be an amazing position towards the end, as i had a mate in 1 threat hovering over my shoulder.

enjoy and feel free to comment. i am sure rybka or another chess engine will say he should have won his dominant position and i should have lost, and that is fine.  i am neither a chess engine nor a super grandmaster- so i did my best to calculate defensive manuevers given my bad positional situation. and in the end i have a nice headache to remember this game by.

this is a little bit of sweetness given that i lost 56 points for withdrawing from a tournament without making a single move (which I did not know would happen) - that kind of put a sour taste in my mouth - and following that sour taste came a couple of losses (you know - to really get the sour taste out of my mouth) and so in the end I was around 86 points in the hole...

Wow.  I was reading a book about the dangers in chess, and it talked a lot about how although it may seem like you are the one attacking, it really is your opponent.  This position seems to apply very well to this book.  Good game, though, way to take victory from the jaws of defeat.

25. Bg5 for white is absolutely crushing, white wins.

In response to the Bg5 post, I think the point was that we were both seeing the same variation where it looks like he has my queen trapped.  So although there might have been other moves, in fairness to my opponent, he chose that line because he saw what I saw, which is that he thought he had my queen in trouble.

Well played.  No one ever won a game by resigning.  And, games like this are what extra strength Tylenol or Excedrin are for.Wink

In response to the 25 Bg5 post, he may want to take a look at the response 25 ...Qg7.  Doesn't seem so absolutely crushing at that.  It seems, actually, quite long after that because of the squares the Knight covers.  Although it may lead to some puzzle like solution that can't be readily seen.

I feel that emotions tend to influence how a position looks like instead of what it actually is. I find the best way to combat this is to try to just play the game logically - like you did here. He lowered his defenses with 25. Rf7 which was the only thing he could do to get checkmate, from the looks of it.

In fact, even if it looks like he has the advantage, I think he has exhausted all of his resources trying to get to your King. The Rook move 25. Rb1+ was a good move-- as a counterattack-- and you finished the game nicely.
