    I pulled off a smothered mate in an OTB tournament game, with a GM looking over my shoulder no less! However, I earn several demerits for disgustingly sloppy play leading up to it (including missing it a move earlier!)

    well...actually.. yes! Look at my rating. I do it all the time. Usually for no reason let alone an imagined smothered mate.

    Loomis, you have done a correct analisys, but please note I had to make decisions with a few seconds on my clock. What I try to say is the importance of patterns.
