there is so much chess theory to learn...

one very famous strategy to sidestep this hurdle is to take your opponent out of book as early as possible hoping you can strategically and tactically outplay them as opposed to theory!!

In this game, white deviates from theory very early on and loses the initiative for good !! 

it gives black the opportunity to start pushing for small advantages which decisively culminate in mate threats..

thx.thats why we must exercise caution when deviating from book. especially if not followed on agressively enough.

I believe there was a player who played a3 with white against karpov and won. that's quite emberrassing Cool
