What do you think about this game, how can I improve, what were my good and bad moves.
5 minutes, hacker4life- white (me)
Just picking out 1 move:
12.Nd2? Seems like you're just playing "hope chess", i.e. a backwards move that stifles your own development and loses a pawn (d4), all for the slim chance that Black would blunder his Rook. Which luckily for you he did. 12.0-0 looks much better, with threats such as Bf3 and Re1.
actually I did it on purpose, since eating the pawn at g2 which he did, looked much better and with more benefits, as it is attacking my rook and thinking that he could prevent castling. I had to take the chance
Is there any point in analysing a quick game where your opponent threw all his pieces away?
If you want to improve, play longer than five minute games.
Continue playing "hope chess" and you won't improve. It's that simple. You don't need to take any chances from such a dominant position. Just play sensibly.
I'm not sure how much truth there is in Soltis's observation or its relevance but he did say:
"He who analyzes Blitz games is stupid."
Soltis, Andrew. (2008) "The Wisest Things Ever said about Chess"
Seems like a pretty bold statement but it was also cited by Kramnik in "My Life and Games."
They were talking not just about analyzing your own games but also the games of masters.
Ah yes, somebody else who asks for advice and then starts an argument with anyone who gives it to them. Keep that attitude up and you're sure to live up to your username.
At your level, hoping for ...Qxg2 might work sometimes. However, it doesn't take long for players to start looking for traps -- no decent player ever takes something for free until they have really checked the lines -- because they are so suspicious that this "gift" is really a trap, else you wouldn't give it to them. When I see something like ...Qxg2 I'm not going to believe it until I fail to come up with something like Bf3 (in response) after minutes of thought.
In short, you might get lucky a few times with this attitude early on, but it will just not get you very far in the long run. I say, you're taking an unnecessary risk. If you try hard enough, you will find plenty of moves that make nasty threats while still being sound.
Traps are not always bad; as long as you still have an ok position if your opponent sees the trap, they could be a useful idea, but in a position like this, where you're hanging a center pawn, you are giving away a huge asset, and clogging up the position, with an extremely small chance of a decent player even coming close to falling for the trap. 12 0-0 keeps everything you had, without giving up the d4 pawn, and look at that -- now you actually are threatening Bf3.
Minutes of thought in a 5 minute game?
Sounds like a pretty long game then!
It is my understanding that it was five minutes to move the pieces, but thought time does not count against the total time allotted.
