I have heard that there was a 10 year old USCF master a year or two ago if anyone has any thoughts or knows anything about it or if you are/were a master at a young age then post

Nicolas Nip was a USCF master at 9 years 11 months. Nakamura had that record and thinks Nip received sandbagging help.

While it's true that Sergey Karjakin became a GM at age 12 (the youngest ever), he has never been in the USCF, so he's not our guy.

Well, there's always 13-year old IM Ray Robson. He became a FIDE Master at age 10, and a National Master a year later.

Nicholas Nip became a master in March 2008, 6 days before his 10th birthday. Those with questions noticed match play was important in raising his rating. Nakamura was not going beyond that and said it doesn't matter if he achieves great things in chess. One observation that alarms some critics is the superior match results they said Nicholas Nip had compared with his tournament results. Others were suspicious of selected match players with the possibility of bribery of the opponents. With time, we shall see his progress.
