Chess players:  NEW FORUM:  25,000 CHESS PLAYERS pool.

Rules:

Take your best guess on the exact date that this site will reach 25,000 people who actually are playing one or more games of CHESS.  The winner will be the user who guesses closest to the exact date without exceeding it.  Ties will be resolved by the first person to post the closest date.   if you think erik is going to be 'right', just wait til he posts and do what matt did - pick a day later and post that for your guess....  heh heh.

e.g.  suppose erik guesses April 24, 2008.  and the site reaches 25,000 CHESS PLAYERS on april 26, but no one guessed april 25.  erik wins.

e.g. # 2   suppose erik guesses April 24, 2008, and the site reaches 25,000 CHESS PLAYERS on april  23.  his guess exceeded the exact date so he is disqualified.  the winner will be redserpent because he guessed April 22, 2008.

1. one guess per player.  you may not change your guess, first shot, one chance.

2. All 'guesses' must cease when the "chess players" on this site exceeds 20,000 users.   (that way, we must wait a while - there would be no point in allowing 'guesses' after the site reaches 24,950 for instance).   there are just over 12,130 users as of about 7:00 am 28 Jan 2008 eastern standard time, USA.

3. Prize:  recognition by all here for your accuracy. (for what that is worth); Fame. (fleeting at best for we will start a new 'pool' to guess the next players milestone for this site) and a good feeling, sort of like winning a chess game. (Winning a chess game gives one a personal feeling of great warmth - somewhat akin to wetting your pants in a dark suit at night - gives you a wonderfully warm feeling, but it doesn't last long and no one will likely notice or care.)     Wink

Reason for this pool:  about the same as many of the other Forum topics.

My guess for reaching 25,000 users:  October 8, 2008

Dear Ret,  You have said that I was not logical in my statement if we can fathom why women are not interested to play chess , we would go a long way to promote chess among women. My friend, if we know the reasons for women's indifference to chess, don't you think we can come up with a program to whip up interest in chess among women?  This is very logical thinking!  But you just can't see it!   By the way since you have professed that you have been a chesscoach for 35 years, maybe we should play a  friendly-match of 6 games here as I am also a coach for  40 years, but has retired now.   Would you accept my challenge?  This is good for our website here  as it will generate a lot of publicity and interests and will be good for erik's Premium  membership campaign too.
