Does anyone know where I can find an online version of 3d chess? This is chess with the board at different levels of height. The game incorporates spacial thinking insted of on a flat board.

No, but you might start by looking at This other website which contains details of hundreds of chess variants. This is just their top-level menu ...

I know it's not what you're looking for (ie. the chess featured on Star Trek), but apparently some people have modelled a working version of 3D chess here that I've been looking at:

My brain can't handle 2D chess let alone this, but I'd love to hear what some of the NMs here make of it.

Have you tried the external links section of the Wikipedia entry for Tri-D chess?

A great chess variant:

Cylinder chess!

All pieces can move from a-file to h-file in one move, even if there is a piece on the b-file! Knights are very special in this variant.
