can anyone show me a game with 50 consecutive moves without a piece taken? thanks
I have my doubts anyone can show you a GM game like that, since it is really an anti-incompetence rule. Here is a realistic scenario involving lower level players: In the endgame, one side has a bishop and a knight, the other has the king only. A knight-bishop mate is possible, so it is not a draw due to insufficient material. However, many lower level players might not be able to deliver mate in 50 moves.
thanks
I stand corrected. Wonder why they didn't, at some point, just agree to a draw. I suppose one or both couldn't give up the hope that they could pull out the win.
Good question, I have no idea, but I am glad I was the arbitrator who had to hang around and watch it.
You were the arbitrator? Or is that just a typo?
Has to be a typo.
164 moves, that is the longest game I have ever seen! Imagine having QvR&P - you would not want to agree to a draw!!
thanks for the game i thought the rule was ridiculous but i guess it was made for a reason
Yeah, it isn't necessarily anti-incompetence. R + B vs R (for example) would be an endgame a lot of strong players would play out, just because there's nothing to lose and a lot of pitfalls for the defender.
Yes, its a typo. Of course, I was not involved.
