Great topic! I'm only guessing here, but I'll say a bunch. Yes, a bunch of minutes. Now, question two! I'll say it's too much time. No wait! I'll say it's too much time. No! Hold on! Okay, it's too little time? Is that right?

Too many. 

About 3 hours a day.

So, 365.25 * 3 * 60.

So... 65,745.

Disclaimer: Yes, I am aware that there are not exactly 365.25 days in a year.  This is an approximate calculation.  I also don't spend exactly 3 hours a day :-Þ

What about the second question? That one's even harder!

Oh.   Too much or too little... well I "feel" it is just enough... since I can't really give it more.   I'd like to be able to retire from working and just play chess but since that isn't a practical possibility...

Then there are days where I "feel" like chess is just a complete waste of time so it's waaaaay too much.  But those days are rare.

Yes, it is a mood thing. If the ideas are stale, and there's no life in my game, then I'm devoting too much time. If I really want to play, and feel creative, then I don't have enough time

Chess is a consumate time waster and procrastination enabler for me, as is posting to internet forums.

When you look at things that way what ISN'T a time waster?!
