A family site?

Nearly every time I play I see something written in the forums where some person gets mildly offended and starts to rant and rave about how this is a family site and how everyone must abstain from foul language or subjecy matter and there are ALWAYS mods on searching high and low for the heretic who would dare use such words as "damn" after losing a game.

That being said, let me tell you a little story:

Here I am replying to the thread about ratings being inflated at chess.com and the entire time theres a moving picture add right to my left where I see Dennis Leary being molested by two half naked women who are taking turns licking him and kissing each other.

Ahem, not that I am at all against this type of thing mind you.

However, and call me crazy here, I see a marked difference between saying "crap!" and watching a free threesome in a little box.

If I was to describe, in detail, such an event in chat would I not be cautioned at the very least?  I think the answer is an aggressive "yes".

Why then am I allowed to WATCH something like this even though I did not request to see it?

If I paid the same amount as the people who placed the add could I describe erotic sexual encounters in general chat?  If so, how much would it cost? Wink

Actually, ads like this should not be on this site. If anyone sees them, we ask that people take a screenshot and send it in to us using the "Report Abuse" link on the bottom of every page.

Well who approved this ad?  It couldn't simply appear on the site correct?

I'm not complaining really.  My post, although accurate, was 40% humor making light of the subject.  This is an excellent site and as much as I love to pull the nazi card about the iron grip on language of course I see why its necessary on a family site.

But really, if the ad shouldn't be here in the first place, then how did it get here?

Don't they just rent out ad space with guidelines about content, without actually having direct control over the content?

On that basis the advertising Companies can every now and again have a little "slip"!Tongue out

The ad company sends the ads, we do not approve the ads before they come in, but we do have the ability to block the ads that we don't want on our site.

Good sense of humor Peedee - I don't get ads because of membership - maybe I should go back to free so I can get what you're getting Innocent

If the free members are viewing these types of ads and the paid ones are not - can you remind me again the incentive of becoming a paid member?

that was a very very funny post Peedee and i totally agree :))

yeah, we bascially signup for an ad network, and they send us ads. how that ad got past the "no adult content" filter we have added (as well a pretty much every other available filter), is beyond me.

but it certainly is ironic :)

Ooh a filter, I have a good filter in my fish pond it normally clears the algae away. But yes, it's good you rigged them up, erik.

I got a solution to all your problems, rejoice

    step 1) Fire Fox

    step 2) Ad block!

Step 3) Always remember the power of open source!

I submit a partial solution. Mark threads such as this one as 'Adult Only'. It will show you're thinking of the children - by preventing rich & aabbccdd from posting in it. Laughing

But I said about this being for family site, which does not involve people being naked too the best of my knowledge.

The Internet is not family friendly.

Neither are the people on it.
