I was playing my computer and the following opening played out. Was 3. b4 a good move? It allowed to rapid development for my pieces (which I needed later, when I made a mistake and ended moving my knight forward, back, and forward again) but if he had played 3. ... Be7 or Ba5 I would be stuck a pawn down, but would that have given me an advantage? Any feedback would be good. Also, what category should this be under (Chess Openings, Game Showcase, etc.)?
The problem I have with 3. b4 is that it's just not necessary since you can already play 3. d4. So I don't see what you have gained for the gambitted pawn.
(b4 is played as a gambit with the bishop on c5 in the Evans gambit 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Bc5 4. b4 but in this case white can't play d4 straight away.)
