I want a poll type of thing.
My Question:Though Knights have less value than Bishops technically I want to know what you people think about this??????
In such positions
I want all of you who read this should put forward their comments.Please.This will help many of us in the game.
I think it's a little early in the game to be making that decision. Depends on the opponent and how the game pans out. Knights seem more attack orientated to me, whereas Bishops can attack and defend at long ranges. As black I'd prefer to have 2 Bishops any day.
As black I wouldn't exchange light squared bishop just yet.
The value of knights and bishop is relative. If your game consists of a lot of locked pawns, then your knights would be more valuable than a bishop because your knight can jump over said pawns. In fact, in German they call the knight Der Springer which when translated means the jumper; however, if the board is pretty open, then your bishops are more valuable because they are long-range attackers. Therefore, it really depends on what your pawns are doing. As Philidor said, "Pawns are the soul of the game."
Since it is White's move, I presume you are asking whether to play h2-h3 to entice Black to trade his B for your Nf3 or Ng5, which almost forces ...Bxe2 in reply.
Neither seems best. Although White has voluntarily restricted the scope of his KB with d2-d3, the pawn structure is not blocked, so it may come into its own later. Therefore, there is no reason to waste time to exchange it.
There is nothing wrong with "asking the question" of the Black Bg4 with h3, but White might also just develop with Be3 and await developments, or even attempt to establish a positional preponderance in the center with d3-d4!? immediately - 1... exd4 2 Nxd4 Bxe2 3 Qxe2 is good for White, or 1 ... Bxf3 2 Bxf3 exd4 3 Qxd4 Nc6 4 Qe3 Re8 5 Rd1 is also better for the first player, which leaves 1 ... Nbd7 2 h3 Bh5 (here Bxf3 3 Bxf3 and White may still exploit the Bishop-pair later) 3 Be3 and White has some initiative.
In the given position, there is no particular reason to assume an exchange will be favorable. In such situations, it is usually better to let the opponent worry about how to exchange, and make the move which most improves our postion overall.
This was just a made up position.Still then thanks to all.
Black's center pawns are on black squares, making his white squared bishop pretty important (since the pawns aren't guarding the white squares). If I were Black, I wouldn't trade the bishop for the knight, especially not when white hasn't even played h3 yet.
u would prefer that u exchange the bishops by using the knight to capture the pawn at E5. that way, the white piece have the upper hand 'cause not only u will capture the pawn, but also the bishop of the black piece(if the black piece will be provoked to capture White's bishop.
What a dull position.
