ADHD

I suffer from ADHD. I used to take meds for it , Strattera but now I've been awhile without it and it shows.  I can't focus anymore and keep losing most of the time. Of course I can go back on them. Not gonna do that. At least for some more time. I wonder how it is in competitive chess. Are you allowed to take Ritalin or meds in the same category when you play in competitive chess?

I would imagine that medication isn't banned

I seem to recall FIDE was going to consider testing for performance enhancing drugs but I don't know if that was ever implemented. If it was, I would suspect the impact would be limited to specific events and would exclude prescribed medications.

VierKazen89

I guess so. But then the diagnosis has to be established, right?

kleelof

Don't buy into the AMA propaganda; ADD and ADHD don't really exist.

It would be kind of cool to have a card or some other evidence to carry around from a doctor saying I have ADHD so then I could snatch a piece off the board illegally (snicker, snicker, I said snatch) & if/when I get caught I could just whip out the good ol' ADHD card whenever I need to (kind of like whippin' out the good ol' race card over & over & over........), it would give me carte blanche to act any way I like & then just pretend i'm really the victim. Oh, that would be awesome. It would be like Cartman on South Park pretending he had Tourrete Syndrome. Just whip out the ADHD card over & over & over .......... Ah, the possibilities.

Maybe I could get one made up for Tourette Syndrome so I can yell at my opponents.

There are so many troll-racist-sexist forums on this site. Why don't you just go there?

Seems rather cold blooded to make fun of people like this...

MikeCrockett

I have never been interested in watching South Park. Apparently for a good reason...

Ah, that's an idea!!  I'm gonna make up official looking cards for ADHD & Tourettes. Oh, the possibilities are endless!

I'll take 5 each to go with my multiple-personalities card.

You're right & have a good point sir but it's ok in this situation because I have ADHD & Tourettes. So I'm really a victim here because I can't control myself. Sorry. Some sympathy please?

Tourettes and ADHD, together?

So do you get distracted and forget what you were screaming?

Yep. That's funny.

Edit: In all honesty, I really do have ADD. Whether or not it's just a made up diagnosis by the AMA, I was diagnosed with it but never took meds for it. I often have trouble concentrating during my tournament games.

Many doctors believe the behavior that is being 'diagnosed' is actually a carry-over from our earlier evolutionary stages.

For example, this supposed issue of not being able to concentrate on some activities for long periods of time. At one time, it was advantageous to be able to move your attention from subject to subject.

Also Jenuim, apparently it seems you're quite familiar with them so you must have been on many of those forums. Ahem......... birds of a feather........ahem.

Hard to be in this forum and not to stumble into them. I recommend this one:  http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/when-a-coward-refuses-to-resign The troll-OP there could need a bit of support.

Did you see the South Park episode? I was wondering during the cartoon what people with Tourettes thought of it.

There was an incoherent uproar over it.

Why do people without any knowledge and experience comment the op? There's a simple rule for those: Shut up! Ta geule! Schnauze!
