Your rating is 1600+ here so you should be able to beat computers on some levels. Have you tried changing the computers settings to a lower standard insted of playing against full strength engine? If your losing on easy mode... well, i dont know! at 1600+ you should be able to beat easy mode if easy mode is sub 1600.

how fast are you playing? I think how much time one takes matters a lot more than rating sometimes

i tend to play fast against the computer, not fully calculating all of the possibilities, a thing i would do in a game of correspondance chess.

maybe that's why i'm having problems

I couldnt beat the cpu at all when I started playing chess again this last few months after a couple years hiatus. At first I couldnt beat the comp at all on easy or no, if I made a bonehead move I would restart and try to make moves quickly in order to analyse what the comp was doing to win. Its all about prepositioning and in this case knowing your opponent is helpful, eg; The comp values Bishops over Knights quite a bit. And usually will make the same opening move many times but after awhile I was able to beat the comp more an more, I would reccommend playing the comp to brush up on your "skills" :]

Take your time, and you'll be fine.
