This is an example of when chess is frustrating.

I know it was frustrating but you did the right thing, your opponent was going to checkmate and you could not stop it, so getting a draw was good!

White missed a mate in one, 19. Qxf8#, and essentially failed to see it through several moves.

No, because after 19. Qxf8+ I could play 19. ... Rxf8 (rook on 'a' file).

Nothing wrong with taking a draw when the alternative is a loss.  22... Bd2+ would of had a mate for black in a few moves.
