Well, Anand and Karpov played Saturday in two blitz matches and the
result was Anand won with white and drew with black.  They play again on
Monday.
So, do you all think Karpov will get a win?  I really hope so, I like his style
of play and as I am now 46 I always root for the older athletes.  Walter Ray Williams won the bowling tournament today and he just turned 50, and yes if
golf can be called a sport so can bowling, the movements are complex and
strenuous to the body.
And in the Nascar race at Talledaga Mark Martin, who is 50, flipped his car
and probably lost his chance to win the Sprint Cup, so I was disgusted by that
last-lap mayhem.
You never know when Karpov might recapture the old magic, although he
is really struggling now.  He was an almost unbeatable blitz players years ago,
just like Anand.
Anyway, I still love watching the older players more than the current ones,
just like I prefer watching the older golfers.
Then again, I think computers are just a passing fad.

Wow, Walter Ray won one and he's 50?  The horseshoe champ comes through again!

Six-time World Champion in both bowling and horseshoes, and yet this guy rides around in an RV and has only made a couple million in his entire career.

Karpov should have quit competitive chess long ago. Now it is just embarassing to see him lose game after game against younger opponents. There are exceptions in every sport (e.g. Lance Armstrong, Viktor Korchnoi), but unfortunately Karpov is not one of them. By playing on, he is killing his own legend.

Everybody has an opinion about Karpov. Many say that Karpov should quit or retire but I disagree. We need champs like him to popularize chess and cultivate the next generation of players. I for one would be thrilled to play him (even though I may get slaughtered)!

I would say that he has nobody to answer to. So what if Anand or Kasparove beat him? The mere fact that he put aside his pride and is still willing to compete is laudable.

All this talk about feeling sorry for him is utter rubbish.
