GM Mamedov:

“Women can never play like men simply because they are women. It is something innate. Have you ever seen women doing any better than men at anything?”

Isn’t chess kind of a ridiculous thing to be spending 7 hours a day on? It’s a freaking board game.

this guy knows what is up

Found the Radjabov quote:

"I think that the important competitions should be played separately as in tennis. It's well known that it is embarassing (awkward) for a strong player to lose to a woman"

A top GM from a couple of decades back that makes Aronian seem comparatively balanced is Ulf Andersson:

"I consider it unworthy and degrading to lose against a woman. Women can never be as good as men in chess"

Women can cook better though. Maybe because they practice more. I find cooking very appealing. I cook at least twice a Week.

men are thinkers, women are feelers

Well, Fischer said that women weren't even good at cooking :-) He also claimed that any man, also a total beginner, would beat the women's World Champion after only two months of training. This was said when Fischer was in his 20s and Gaprindashvili was the women's WC, and she wasn't exactly a weak player, in this tournament she shared first ahead of players like Reshevsky, Christiansen and Browne:

while its not clear that women are less intelligent than men on average

Unlless you think IQ is intelligence which is not true because there are many forms of intelligence and we even aren't quite sure what intelligence REALLY IS. But tests have shown that women score on average 4 points lower than men.Which is,you know not very much..Its almost nothing...But if you look at it from a different perspective, why have all the great philosophers, scientists and you know, people who we read about in history books, with  some exceptions have been MEN.

Its also true that women are phisically weaker than men, which maybe one of the reasons why that happened.

And like i said the 4 points average IQ advantage like i said,is almost nothing but you also have to take into account that theres double the amount of men who have an IQ higher than 130 than women..

But studies have shown that  IQ isint really important in chess right?

Well it could be that women arent just that interested in chess you know,

Just like theres more men in science..Thats what i tend to  believe.

Well,we don't really know right now if males are superior,or not.

The mainstream tells you to believe their not,and thats what i want to believe. But we have to understand that we live in nature where everything is unfair, and one species of animals may be superior to another. There are many examples in nature where sex differences are HUGE.IN humans, its not that big but lets remember,if we all would be equal,we would be the perfect beings. We aren't perfect.

Sorry for my bad english

Mamedov, Radiabov, both not Russian, and being from a more patriarchalic society. Not surprising.

Lock him up in a room with Judith Polgar and play 5 min. chess for a day.

Legally-Blonde

Aronian couldn't win with an extra piece today.

Let him have an extra knight against Judit to even things up.

I was born in the 50s, when i was a kid it was very rare that i would come across a female chess player. Now in elementary schools there are thousands of girls learning the game at a young age. I have no doubt that someday there will be a female world champion but i have no idea if i will still be alive at that point in time. I think the difference in strength between the top male players and the top women players narrows every decade.

TheGrobe

But that can't be right -- it's inconsistent with the preconceived notion that men are somehow intellectually superior.

DrCheckevertim

Here's what I don't understand. Why does everyone have to make the Man vs. Woman debate into a debate of superiority? A better debate would be if there are actually differences by nature. This would mean there are strengths and weaknesses in certain areas for each gender. It would not mean that there is a "superior" gender. It would mean that the genders are different and inclined to different skill sets. I am much more inclined to believe that argument than the argument that men (or women) are superior, or (the buzzword these days) equal. Equal human rights, yes. "Equality" being the sameness in all aspects of being, now that is much more questionable.

The "superiority" argument of men vs. women reminds me of the old misconceptions on intelligence. Engineers are "smarter" than artists. Doctors are "smarter" than performers. It has become much more clear nowadays that there are different sorts of intelligences, it's not actually "smart" vs. "not smart." I believe the man vs. woman superiority debate to be similarly ancient, and it will eventually be phased out, just like the "what type of person is smarter" debate.

Aronian was just knocked out of the FIDE World Cup. Adios.
