In a coffeeshop where I live, there was this guy who was super rude. I sat down, played him, worked him like a rented mule, and then...

Believe it or not, he started being my p!mp, finding other players who would give me a good game, or so he thought. Biggest turnaround I've ever seen.

One thing that can work against rude players, if you can pull it off, is when they make a bad move, look up at them and say "are you serious" or "what the hell kind of a move is that". If they've already lost some in a row, this usually shuts them up pretty good.

Hey Chessbee,

I understand your problem with annoying people, who don't play chess, and insult everyone there. At first I didn't deal with them too much, but then they got bored, and never came back again =) And about the lack of social life, I have no idea how to solve that. I spend my lunch everyday at my chess club, and there are no girls there. So yea... I am screwed in that department. Everyone gives me weird looks at my chess hat and chess.com shirt =/

Yea I know how you feel AM3692, I wear my chess hat all the time as well and everyone stares at me, I don't where a chess.com t-shirt though, I have no money to buy one. As far as girls, I have no idea how to handle that either.

A good read, but I am not the kind of guy that the" hotties" are looking for, I am too much into my studies at school and chess, plus I am kind of anti-social, mostly because I never find a reason to go to football games, rallies, dances, etc. however I do know what I am looking for and maybe one day I will find it, I have a friend named Jack Cashman and he is in his mid to late 60s and he has never been married, chess consumed his life, but he is he is a very happy person nonetheless.

Arrogance: Beat them, taunt them, insult them, crush their ego completely.  If you are a better opponent, unless they are completely deluded they should shut up in short order.

Civility:  Ignore them, its high school, and while they spend 2 hours blabbing spend 2 hours studying.

Clout: If your voice means more in the chess club (likely if he's arrogant), simply ban him.  Although this will make them more arrogant (I'm too good for them!) at least he will go away.

You'll find love in the weirdest places.  Just remember eye contact is everything and if a girl that normally ignores you starts talking to you too much she probably likes you.  Or maybe she just wants to copy your homework highschool is hard.

Ok I had a break through with an arrogant player:

He was telling all the chess club players that I couldn't play chess at all and that I was an arrogant player who wasn't worth his salt. So I challenged him to a game and he accepted. It was pretty epic he had his possy behind him and the rest of the club stood behind me, it was pretty much silence the whole game, I totally won, I  had four pawns, a queen, rook, and bishop and he had a king. Then:

player- I was tired and didn't care (yea right), my first mistake was hangning my knight in the opening.

ME- Your first mistake was calling me arrogant.

Total smack down, he subsided and asked me for lessons on what tactics I used against him.
