This being my 2nd post,I'll like to talk about bad losers on live chess. Whom am I talking about? I'm talking about those players who refuse to play and run down the clock when they realise that they are facing inevitable defeat. The purpose of this selfish act is to fustrate you to the point where you just resign the game,or to wait you out just in case you get disconnected. This is a very unfair and dishonest act.You are making a deserving winner wait for his hard earned victory. However, not everyone can wait, and unfortunately some people lose their games because they can't wait and are forced to resign. To all who are doing this and you know who you are, STOP IT.YOU'RE WITHHOLDING GOOD FROM WHO IT IS DUE!

PS: If you are ever caught in such a situation, just wait out the person.

By the time, you can chat, start another game or observe another game.BUT TRY YOUR BEST NOT TO RESIGN!

Thank you for reading!Cool

I play live chess while doing other things, so whenever I encounter these players I simply wait and continue doing whatever else I was doing.

You could always post links to games where a player did that to you. In fact, it'll be ideal if we have a thread that everyone would report to whenever this happens. This way, we get a huge list of cases so we know which players are doing these things (kinda like the "cheaters list" that the staff at chess.com constantly updates whenever cheaters are caught).

It would be very nice if the various posts about this topic included what the time control was, along with other pertinent information.

For example, it was a 10 minute game, and we had made moves pretty quickly and both had about 8 minutes left. Then my opponent dropped a queen, and then stopped moving.

Just to point it out...

Saying that the complainer is "too sensitive" does not make it any less rude. It just means that when people are rude that you should not let it bother you.

And I've heard all of the "but it's my time I can use it how I want to" nonsense before.

There is another possibility which bears mentioning. In some cases, it may be that an opponent who did not spend enough time considering earlier moves and has gotten into trouble may have been spending his time searching for tactics by which he could salvage at least a draw, and may be considering resignation if he can't find any. He has that right.

Just don't take the game so seriously.  Occasionally you will run across people who do this...either take a deep breath, accept that the person you are playing is playing a rude tactic, and either sit out the duration, or resign and make sure not to play the same person again.  But don't let it get your nerves riled up.  That makes them happy, you mad, and then the game isn't as much fun.   You will spend a lot of time fuming over what should have been a good win.  But take it lightly, if at all possible.

I play 10+1 many times (not on here, until the bugs are zapped! :-) ) and so if they do that, then I only have to wait a few minutes.  Of course, if I want, I can resign, and then play a real sport.  Remember, it's only a game - play to have fun!  :-)  I hope these light-hearted suggestions help you see the game in a different light...

I can't believe how many people on here are SO SENSITIVE!

If you don't want to have to wait the time out then don't play that length game, factor in the chance that you will have to endure it for the win.

You seem pretty sensitive to hearing about this, lol. At worst, this'll be just another random forum topic. No need to get so worked up about it.

When you start a 20-min game, you are expected to commit 20 min of time -- that's true. But you should also expect to actually play chess during that time. Sitting there for 15 min staring at a position like this (below) waiting for your opponent to run of out time is not exactly playing chess.

Not worked up, just amazed at the number of people, like you, who are so self involved and easily upset.  Maybe you should get Mummy to hug you!  lol

You lack the intellect and maturity for a game like chess. I'd recommend Go Fish instead.

No, I didnt know. I do know however that looser is an adjective and that the word they should be using is "loser" . It seems the education system is failing miserably.
