Well, I don't like beer, the next one that I find that I like will be the first. But I do often enjoy a nice Scotch while I'm sitting at home playing chess. I don't know if it's a good mix, but it's relaxing.

I like beer, wine, whiskey, vodka, gin, champagne, port, cocktails and anything else you care to mention as long as alcohol is contained therein.

I also like chess.

Oh, and women :-)

Mostly two of them go together, but have never found an appropriate situation for all three. Wink

I look at this way, if you have 1 or two beers while playing it helps you do rlax and I don't make as many mistakes. If you have many more that that, chess becomes missile command!

I agree, few beers can make you think more than consuming large amount, makes you drunk and wasted.

I am currently trying to recover in several tournament games where I made some "brilliant" moves one night after a "few" beers. The next morning I realized my brilliant moves left me down a few pieces or in terrible position.

Lesson learned. Now I always wait till the next morning to double check my brilliance.

We should have a tournament , unrated of course, where the rule is that you should have at least two beers before you make a move.

If you make it two alcholic drinks, between moves, then you'd definitely get me, probably Pistoleer too.

Otherwise it's just a normal night of playing chess.

I think beer was invented by the man who invented chess. It was his intent that the two go together. What was the question?

Is that to have the two beers between moves or to have no more than two beers between moves?

I've heard of strip poker but not strip chess. Maybe we've got a new game here.

heh :) im currently (5.30pm) still working off a dastardly hangover from last nights escapades... aye i like a wee drink.. Anything and everything except sherry.. ugh.

My issue is mixin, not chess and booze cause i do that all the time, but booze an booze..

Trick is to keep a shot glass, wine glass and pint glass handy by yer desk and a range of spirits and bottle o wine and one o port.  Shot glass is clearly used fer shooters, sambuca and vodka are the flavours o the day at the moment. Wine glass fer the wine (duh!) unless it happens to be dirty then its neckin the bottle of course. Finally the pint glass is fer recyclin.. saves trips to the toilet.  Though..it must be said that when severely wasted and thirsty..an full pint glass o what is mostly pure alchohol is a bad temptation or even it may look like the glass of cordial that i sometimes have... :s

Worst though is the mornin after puttin food out fer me cats while makin coffee... aye ive used the same teaspoon fer servin and stirrin in my tiredness before... chunky tuna flavoured coffee is a taste ive yet learn to like :s

Speakin o tournies.. Master Zug setup one recently "First Boozers Open". I made an epic drunken blunder and my opponent asked if i had been drinkin!!?? Well of course i was! So he clearly was cheatin by playin sober :(

(love missile command heh)

Homer.. chess, booze and women... easy.. im sure ye have heard o strip poker.. well strip chess works too and it relies less on luck.. ;P

I posted about drunken chess blunders here too heh,

http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/worst-drunken-chess-blunders

so aye ive made plenty o "stunning" moves while under the influence heh.

Ok.. every time ye loose a piece in this idea o tourney.. ye take a shot/funnel a beer.. :)

Quite unlikly that the man that invented chess invented beer.... Since beer is thousands of years old and what chess looks like today started to take shape round 500 years ago XD. Thats bout when they stoped using dice to determin the moves if im not mistaken...
