I just met two beginning players who just know how the pieces move. What are the most useful features of chess.com for them.

I would suggest they start at the Learn drop down..."Rules and Basics",  and work from there.

If you go under the "Learn" menu at the top, then click on "Learn Chess Basics & Rules". That's the best place to start for absolute beginners.

I read some where, maybe on Chess.Com; that beginners should play chess 80% of the time and study chess 20% of the time. And that's worked pretty good for me. I spend most of my time on a NY22 pocket sized chess computer. I also play against Chess.Com's computer for a reality check. I study "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Chess" which is highly rated on Amazon.com.Smile

I've since added studying "The Everything Chess Basics Book" which is endorsed by the U. S. Chess Federation. I'm also playing four games in online chess. Great fun!Cool
