After looking closely at the game Black left the d-pawn hanging for a few turns.
Black would get the bishop pair if White tried to win the pawn.

Sorry for the silly answer, but did you bother to check a database before posting?
There are more than 200 games from this position (after 12...Bd7) and only 22 of them feature 13.N(B)xd5. It does not matter with which piece you will take on d5, both end up to the same totally drawn position:
