Good question! I think the answers will vary to an extent because people like different styles and personalities of the presenters, and this comes through more in DVDs than books.

Do a Google search for the video series called Chess for Anyone by Bruce Warner. My son and I thought they were great! They start off at a very beginner level though. Plenty to learn from the set though.

FWIW, I think Daniel King is a superb presenter on videos and DVDs - like the Power Play DVD series. You can get an idea what he's like from his YouTube channel:

Looks interesting. Are there any DVD samples/excerpts available, to get an idea of Bruce's style?

That link is for volume 2 which was made a few years ago in response to the Vol 1. The first volume was made in the 90s and released onto DVD in 2005. Here's what a quick YouTube search for Vol 1 came up with. It's the ending of the volume.

Not the best, but interesting historically and, based on material from earlier series on YouTube, entertaining. I remember watching the first 2 or 3 series on TV in the late 1970s.

One of my favourites was Byrne vs Korchnoi...

(Warning: pretty ropey qualitywise with some sync problems.)
