I want to see "Searching for Bobby Fischer too.
There was a lengthy thread about chess movies but it seems to have vanished!
Searching for bobby fischer was known in the uk as "innocent moves" when I found it in the video store, ironically for those who dont know, it isnt really actually anything to do with bobby fischer.
Well he is mentioned in the movie quite a lot, but true the movie isn't about him. Has there ever been a movie about him btw? He seems like the perfect guy to make a movie about.
Not really since Bobby was racist and sexist etc. xD
Hi guys,
I dont think there are any chess movies except 'Searching for Bobby Fischer'. Bobby Fischer was a great chess player but very socially inept.
Watch your backrank.
There is another movie out there callsed "Knight Moves". I actually didn't like the movie at all because it's just not that good, really - lol - but it's about a chess champion who seems to be hunted by a serial killer, and all the crimes happen according to his moves from a chess championship based on a city-grid.
Kinda hard to understand, right? Well, imagine a city-grid with 64 houses (those are the squares) and the killer kills those on the houses according to the moves on the game.
It sounded interesting, but I didn't like it. Maybe 'cause it's old school (poor effects, etc) but if there was a remake, I'd check it out.
Later,Leo.
there is of course "The Luhzin Defence" (not sure of spelling),
starring John Turturro. It's centred around vladimer Luhzin, a tortured chess genius, whose life is been played out on a chess board surreally.
I think its taken from stories by 'Naboukov'.
check it out.
The sexiest game of chess played on film is of course in "The Thomas Crown Affair"
Not that I am aware of, however I read a rumour that a movie about the life of bobby fishcer was in production and due out 2010 but has either been cancelled or postponed for some reason, I think I saw that runour on this site but cant quite remember.
Try watching Revolver from Guy Ritchie... its magnific.
Hatley High is a Canadian comedy movie about chess. It is very funny, and I would highly recommend it. It centers around a high school where the chess team is made up of all of the cool kids. The entire town is very into chess, the way most American towns are about football. In the end the team has to play a big match against a Russian team.
Here it is too (the chess game from the Thomas Crown Affair): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rA8YpHQHBd0
All the more intriguing right? We don't want to see a chess machine, we want to see a human genius.
Chess fever (1925)
Cannon Ball Run 2. It's like chess but with cars. Only goofing around. I do have a serious question:
I saw a film early one morning years and years ago. It was about this kid living in the ghetto. He was damn good at chess, but got hooked up in selling drugs on the corner. Then low and behold, he's actually been squirreling money away for ages and has this huge plan to get out of the ghetto.
Anyway, does anybody know what this film was?
There is also a chess movie titled "Dangerous Moves".
Try Game Over: Kasparov vs. The Machine. Not really a movie, but an interesting documentary. I enjoyed it.
I can't remember the exact name but I recently saw a film called something like "The East-side Knights" which was pretty good aswell.
Speaking of the Thomas Crown Affair...who here thinks they could play a serious game of chess when a very sexy woman keeps stroking your King
