Do you think only practicing your moves and studying chess on a computer is the best way? I would argue to think that by using a board and pc would be best. By physically touching the pieces when you play through something or learning a new technique wouldnt you remember it better? Its a fact that when you use two senses you remember things better like if you hear and see something vs just hearing it. Like saying the combination of moves out loud then physically performing the moves by hand vs just clicking through them on a screen? Lets hear some opinions on this.

i suggest playing several games with a computer and see why you loss. If you can draw against a computer, you are improving. Try to win against the computer on easy setting, then medium, and finally hard. If you can win against a computer on hard, then you are on your way to mastering chess.

PLaying against a computer is hardly even a decent way of learning chess, playing other persons would do you more.

Okay. Computers are a last resort if you can not find someone to play chess with you.

It is interesting discussion to begin with, I slightly admit with geer_matt saying that the more sense playing important role in remember the moves.

On the other hand, playing on the screen will give more visual ability to spot something as the view from top is the best, at least I believe which not practical on OTB. And also, playing on screen have lot more advantage outweighting the points you give to the board games. For example, much easier to go through engine & analysis, online tactic trainer, more blitz game to play with, chess lesson engines and much more.

But, having a board when you reading chess book will be a good idea, rather than visualizing. Follow the games on the book with your board. At least Bobby Fischer always practise this .

I just trying to say with this modern chess technology, thing are getting better online and much more resources compared.
