Which piece is your favorite, Bishop, or Knight? I like the Knight because of its ability to fork pieces.

It all depends on the position...

    Bingo.

Also, bishops can fork pieces too:

If you're not sure - keep the Bishop.

Thats true, but a knight has a special part in check. if you were to check with a knight you can not block, only take the Knight or move the king.

The usual rule of thumb; Knights are most useful in the opening and the first portion of the middle game or in a closed game. Bishops are most useful in the endgame or when the board becomes wide open.....usually after some exchanges. Bishops are the archers......and Knights are well......your Knights Tongue out Overall i like Knights better

knights are better in closed positions, bishops are better in open, and it is very easy to blunder your queen to a knight fork in the endgame.

personnally i prefer knights, because if you lose one or both of your bishops, your  queen can mimic them, but the queen cannot mimic a knight.

but i only PREFER knights, as the position is what i am supposed to be looking for Smile

Knights. The human mind is far better at seeing lines than L shapes, not to mention that with a bishop, you only need to worry about it bothering half the squares. Knights just have way more possibilities.

Bishops are better in most positions.

If you play for a kingside attack, straight out of the opening, those knights always come in handy!  I agree with dec_Ian, knight provide for surprise value. But of course, yes, all depends on the position :-)

If it is a closed position, then I like Knights, but if it is an open position, then I prefer Bishops. Simply put.

    Don't let it bother you.

Assess the position, then make your best move.

A quote I find to be true most of the time. If one, of course, disregards such circumstances as open/closed position. But as a rule of thumb, it's pretty useful.

Bishops can also pin, like when you have a piece on the same diagonal as your king or another high value piece like a rook or queen.

Knights are bad in the endgame, but good in the middlegame.  I would rather have a knight when I have the initiative, but if I am up a piece, I would rather it be a bishop.

It depends on what your position on the board it. If have two bishops left in the end game dishops are awsome. none the less i prefer the knight.
