    I hear learning to play blindfold heightens your ability to see and analyse patterns, and combinations in chess. True, false, and general information welcome.

    Yes, of course.  :)  I managed to do about 10-15 moves clearly back in the day when I played competitively.  It helps you "see" the board and visualize in the same manner you need when calculating tactics and your opponent's replies.  There are a few chess programs that will allow for these types of games; of course you can also practice by playing out a game in your head and other methods.

    I wasn't under the impression that it proves your worth as a chess player, it was just I'd heard that it helps visualisation and pattern recognition, which BrianN agrees with.
