Is it possible for your boss to fire you for playing Chess during working hours ? I mean at the end of the day, it makes you perform and think much better.

Ask your boss to sponsor you and let him pay your membership at chess.com as he schould be proud of having a professional (as you got paid to play) in his buisness.    Innocent

Good thinking buster47.....I'll try it and let you know. If I'm offline tomorrow, it means my boss didn't like the idea.

I don't really know if you can get fired, but I know from past experience that you can get a really good butt chewing. The company I used to work for blocked access to all game sites, including chess.com. This, of course, occurred after my butt chewing.

My boss encourages me to play. She says it keeps me out of her way and she knows where to find me if by chance I am needed for anything. (This never happens)! Cool

You employer is paying you to do a job that you were hired to do.  Playing chess is not involved in that job.  Yes, you could get fired.  If you were the boss would you want your employees playing chess instead of building the business or helping customers?

Not if you are taking care of your other business and doing the job of more than one person.  I can do the work of five people as an HR Manager, and then instead of taking a smoke break, and I never get a whole lunch, I jump on the chess.com periodically and make a few moves so I don't lose on time.  :)  Might be time to seek a new job if you aren't excited or enthusiastic about it.  www.expresspros.com

You can probably also get fired for passing time in the Chess.com forums when you're supposed to be working.

Speaking of which.... I've gotta go.

LOL.... Newt27. Well, I play on chess.com...a lot. I am going to heed your wise words and tone it down a bit. For us addicts though...its not so easy.

First thing to do is to review the disciplinary policy of the company you work for.

Next, if unsure, the best way to know is to ask your boss, but then you might loose your ability to play chess if your boss is against it.

An alternative is let your boss know that you are playing chess during your break periods and lunch time.

In any event the first time you will get caught, you will likely receive a verbal warning. The second time a suspension of 1 day, then 3 days, 5 days and followed by a possible termination.

Note that disciplinary measures have to be progressive to be fair and give the person time to rehabilitate.

If you get fired on the spot hire a lawyer, he will get your salary for the time off and will get your job back or an out of court settlement with the company.

i played a guy from England on another site. He had a note in his profile saying he would only make moves on weekdays when he was at work. On his days off, he was "too busy"!
