in the following game from english opening tournament , everything was gowing towards a draw, in fact my opponent in white offered a draw and i was about to agree but being too early (only 20 moves) i thought it worth further try

my knight (the dog) was having a great outpost but not utilized, i had a bad (seemingly bad) bishop (the cat) blocked behind its pawns , then one of a sudden white made a mistake , a blunder in fact , unleashing the fianchettoed bishop power

in a glance the cat and the dog took where in excellent positions that even a queen and a rook couldnt bear it ....eventually the guy resigned

its about the power of minor pieces when they r positionally right , that their powers magnifies

Yep! Good game illustrating the power of the pieces!  Thanks for posting Galal!

A knight could seemingly look like a dog, but a bishop being a cat :p

Nice game though, i like bishops on g2, g7, b7, b2 the power of that diagonal. Or was it a cat?! woopsy Tongue out

Nice combo Leo (maybe I should start calling you Galal?)! Well done. I think his draw offer was cheeky. GMs can offer those "well since our endgame technique is perfect we can both see that this a draw" draws... but the rest of us have to prove ourselves... that's my opinion! I thought you had all the interesting moves in that "offer draw" position... you did the right thing rejecting it.

But... I guess I've become a real, "Play on!" type guy, because I would not have resigned White at move 25.  I wonder how the computer evaluates that final position... I'll bet it's between -1 and -2.. which is a strong advantage for black., but by no means a sure win.

*edit* (At 15 ply Toga II evaluates the final position at -1.90 -- just as I thought!)

ut, well played as always... I really enjoy your chess Leo!

I think I would have played

18. ...Bxf3

instead of 18. ...Nd8 . After 19. bxc6 bc6 you would have been a pawn ahead.

The outpost on d4 later looks impressive, but could be exchanged by the blackcoloured white bishop . There would  remain not very active different coloured bishops with draw tendency

***

But naturally the position with the outpost and the rook on a-file was slightly better for you and your win no surprise for me. The better player will often win such positions, because of such mistakes as f4. -

But at the end white is not completly lost in my view. He could still fight for a draw

computer analysis at end of game was -2.4 compared to -0.34 at move 20 ...i agree with u play could continue since i exchanged rook and knight (8) fot a queen (9) but i think phsychologically he was frustrated
