For me Chess 960 or Shuffle chess is a great idea of King Fischer.Mostly now are good in openings which is booked line variations already memorized and they mastered it already.Besides chess is to think what you have in your mind as your strategy how to defeat him /her or cornered. Its a matter of  struggling your way of thinking. Can i suggests this to chess.com,to release  the 960 position of chess 960 so that we can paly and try all.Thnx, its hard to download and need to have  an account not like this we can select what position  we used.

i also love chess960, and think it would be an improvement over the current chess with its memorized openings. however, it will take a lot of work to incorporate it on chess.com .

Shuffle Chess, Chess960, Chess480, Chess256, Corner Chess, and Transcendental Chess, all seem like great ideas.  Here's a link that explains them all: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chess960.

i just downloaded jose, a program that has chess 960 as an option, but I can't beat the computer. I need fallible human opponents to practice with. I've only won once. It is a good idea. One flaw with it, is that, as Fischer said, it favours those with talent. While this is a good thing in a way, those of us who have to work at getting better( ahem) stand little chance of getting better at 960 because of the varying starting positions. You can't really work on getting better, as you can with chess.

I would like to see it on chess.com, though.

Doesn't sound like its coming to chess.com anytime soon, unfortunately.  A good live site for Chess 960 is caissa.com

I wish there were more top level Chess 960 tournaments.  Hopefully someday the more meaningful world titles (mens and womens) will be for Chess 960.

Have we ever had some feedback from chess.com regarding the large number of users waiting for chess960?

Chess960 wouldn't be that difficult to incorporate I don't think.  You're only shuffling the back row positions and cancelling the ability to castle if the condistions are not appropriate.  As far as I am aware there is no other difference, all the rules remain the same etc, this seems as easy as just setting up a position and playing from it.

This clearly couldn't be rated though, at least not influential to the real rating.  Perhaps a chess960 rating could be created, otherwise it should be unrated.

Websites who have both have separate ratings for chess960 and classical chess like they do for quick and regular time controls.

There are also a couple sites offering correspondence style chess960 (again with separate ratings). However, in other respects they are not as good as Chess.com. I would really like to see chess960 here. Having done some programming with chess, I am having a hard time understanding why Chess.com staff keep insisting it would be hard to do.

Seems we can play 960 games but not live 960 games. Is there any way to play chess live 960 style?

Go onto Online Games - Create New Game

http://www.chess.com/echess/create_game.html

Use the top drop down box and change it from " The Usual Game Options"  to "game options i select"

Beneath that, where it says "Standard Chess" , use that drop down box and change it to Chess960.

You can then choose which how many days the game is, which color you play, whether the game is rated, unrated or takeback, and whether you want to challenge a specific person or a random opponent.

the only weird thing about 960 when I play is sometimes I'll move a piece and before I click submit move I'll try to change it, but the piece I am trying to move won't stay.  that and sometimes I think I move the piece and submitted the move but when I click submit move I see the game still says it is my move when the page refreshed.  so that is it.

Antoher thing ....... I would like to play some games with random done maybe with just the rooks bishops and knights just switching places and the kings and queens stay center. maybe castling be changed with whatever pieces are on the ends.  I'd like to decide where the pieces go, that would be a cool option :)

The only difference between 960 and normal is that there's no theory...

I think out of all the shuffle chess games I like the one with the following set up...

King on e4 or e5
Rooks on edges, basic castling rules. (Although king side and queenside may differ depending on where King is)
Bishops opposite colors
symmetrical for black and white.

Fischer chess' castling rules are weird and can still dont look like traditional castling since some pieces may be tucked away in the corner and the only way to get them out is to destroy the pawn formation that is suppose to protect the king.

In the end, this version places all the minor pirces still in the middle, to fight for positions like in standard chess and the rooks come out later and castle and perform the same way as usual. Just chess without the opening theory.
