Why do I have to look at Chess 960 statistics when I don't play Chess 960?  What is Chess 960 and why should I care?

960 is type of chess developed by Bobby Fisher. The starting position of the main pieces is chosen at random.

Charles, I had a game w/ you last year that I enjoyed very much. I invite you to the board again to play a chess960 game. I have known of it for years but I have not played it much. Recently I participated in a 960 tournament here and got knocked out in the first round... but I did come in a respectable second :-).  Invitation is open if you want to explore it together. Best to you, alcools

Does the computer randomly choose the starting positions, or does the player randomly choose where he'll place each piece?
