I play both these strategy games, I am mostly a tournament player in both poker and chess. I find the community in chess very intellectual and humble, while I find the poker community to be mostly bafoons and degenerates, I would like to get some input from other members who play both these games and their ideas on the connection between both of these games, and their communities?
While both games a routed in mathematics, poker has an extra dimension to it. The extra dimension poker has is bluffing, this requires posturing to confuse your opponent and getting them to believe your lies, I uses this for a lack of a better word. This creates more characters at a poker room.
Poker is a more social event while being played, you talk to the other players during the game. I have not played in a chess tournament, but I am assuming that there is not on on going dialog during the game.
Poker would be more like chess if you played poker with all the cards face up.
Chess players are the worst bunch. Alchoholics, w/o work, gamblers, not good for company. Poker players at least respect each other.
Chess is like poker played with all the cards face up except it is really, really hard to calculate the value of your hand.
Agreed.
