Yeah, you see this behavior everywhere. At least chess.com tries to limit it with their fair play policy.
How to handle it? Not much to do except move on to the next game. Disable chat as soon as they get nasty. If there's a lot of time left, and I'm clearly winning, I give them about a minute then I'll resign so I can move on... although if you run into this a lot I can see how you woudln't want to lose tons of rating points.
Does chess.com let you do 2 games at once? I don't think it does :/ I'll also open youtube and watch funny stuff / listen to music if they're taking too long in a lost position. But again this is frustrating if you're taking the game really seriously / don't have a lot of time to play and just wanted to get some games in.
Good luck :) And remember for all the jerks out there, there are a lot of nice people too. Offer a rematch to the nice guy for another game.

Like wafflemaster said, just check facebook or something, keep the tab with the game in it open though. Or just keep analysing the position

But most importantly you can run out the clock where ever you damn well please! -regardless of how aggreviating it is to the guy who was down to play a game or having to waste precious time lookin up facebook and porn hopin he quits before your clock runs out because your just that much of a pansy *-- twit

I guess if I decide to play online I just have to learn to deal with it. Right now I have a tab open with another loser letting the clock run down. It seems I get one of these every other game, so either the fair play policy doesn't work or I just have really bad luck.

Well, actually there is the Geneva Convention...however, things like that probably never quite filtered all the way down into your world.

For those of you who play at a higher rating than myself, do you see very many clock-sitters? At my rating I am not exaggerating when I say it is at least every third player. I have begun blocking each player that does so, so eventually I may cut that percentage down (or run out of people to play against). But I was curious how many of such you find at the higher ratings.
I just open a new game and let the time rubn out.
Speaking of etiquette-do you always say "haha" after a stalemate? You are just as much a loser as those you speak of here.

I play in the 1500-1800 range and I have had a much smaller number of these. I am careful to stay awake as I have also had the experience where they started moving again with a few secs to go, hoping to catch me off guard i assume?
As someone above said, don't let them bother you. Just imagine how miserable they feel to make them act in such a childish and classless way.

I am sure this has been posted before as I am sure it happens to others, but I would like some input as to how others handle this issue.
I typically play the 15 I 10 live version and being a casual player hang around the 1050 to 1150 range. I resign when I am in a losing position, or if I see the player has me in an obvious checkmate in a move or two will play it out to let them get the mate. From what I have read, that is common etiquette.
My issue is that I am more and more often coming across players who instead of resigning when they are in a losing position sit on the clock and allow it to run down. While the site gives me the message that the player may have violated the rules and may have their account restricted, with how common this is I have to believe that very little is done to actually restrict the access of players who have such poor sportsmanship and lack of maturity.
Is there a way to block players who do this? I enjoy playing chess, even though I recognize that I am not all that good, but the people who sit on the clock or resort to namecalling when they lose do dampen my enthusiasm for this site.
How do you folks handle these players?
