I always think of stories when i see a painting like this... she doesn not see it is checkmate (i think she only plays to do him a favor).. he looks a litle irritated ... she never sees it is checkmate ("does she see it now??.. NO!)
hand under her chin seems to say "BORING"... the tilt of his head looks like "a questionmark"
