I was looking at some chess news about Iran on Chessbase the other day and was surprised by the large number of GMs and IMs Iran possesses nowadays.  What could account for this rapid development in Iran's chess?  Some claim that Iranians have special chess talent since it was them who invented the game ( according to the latest archeaological findings) and some put it down to superb organisation and large government investment.  Which one could be the secret of Iran's success in chess? 

Anyone who believes that people born in a specific country has special talents is stupid, the end.

Not only in chess, the Iranians are the best at maths and physics nowadays, but is this a matter of innate talent or special type of education and training?  We all need to do more research to find the answer.  For my part I'm going to do a search on Iranian scientists in top places such as NASA, medical research centres etc.  I may find the answer to this enigmatic question there.  I couldn't believe when I heard Iranian chess genius Ehsan Ghamemaghami had beaten the former world champ Karpov.  Absolutely unbelievable!!

How can someone who's 40 years old believe that being born in a couple of lines somehow gives you innate special abilities?

Genetics does play a role, but it's safe to say that in this case, it's education and society values.
