In July, I have to spend 3 weeks in NYC (Manhattan) for work.  I looked up the Marshall Chess Club website but they seem geared to members or potential members rather than out of town visitors.  Can anyone give me some ideas on what is available in the area.  I will be on foot/on the subway.  Thanks.

go to thompson st. in the west village.  there are 2 chess shops(cafes) there where people play.  also you can play in the parks, washington square, union sq. bryant park.  but in the parks they usuall play for money.good luck
