It's not really a sport. All the other Olympic games are about physical competition.

If people were the pieces, and literally killed each other with medieval weapons, then it could be an Olympic sport (and I would watch it).

Note chess is a game, not a sport so no it can't be in the Olympic games.

If the players get super obese, then they'd work up a sweat playing chess, qualifying it as a physical activity.  Especially if they have to write down their moves and stuff.  Good cardio at the very least.

The olympic games is made up of games (hence the name olympic games). Chess would fit in as it is a game, but I think the chess olympiad we already have is enough.

It was refused to participate chess in olympic games as olympic sport. But in USSR and other "eastern" countries chess was considered to be a sport and all chess clubs were included into national sport organisations, and still are.

IMO comparing chess to physical sport games (basket-ball, soccer, ice-hockey, tennis) is a dishonour not for those sport games, but for chess.

The next idea: Mind Games Olympics. Chess, checkers, go and maybe some card games (bridge) together and aside from physical sport games.

hmmm, true. We could have the GMs playing against each other in chess, then maybe have a Scrabble tournament and bring in other mind games. Just wonder how it would be if there were a Mind Games Olympics.

Only one question though. Would it be as popular as the "Sport" Olympics? Nowadays, people are drawn more towards sports like basketball or soccer. But what about chess? Some people may not know what the game is about (unless this chess event caters for chess fans worldwide). They may find Scrabble boring.

Well, we just have to wait and see...
