When I reached my thirties, I set my new goal to reach master by age 40...

Now that I have reached age fifty, I read about kids reaching mater at age eight...and I smile.

I read Luke McShane reached master at age eight, probably along with a slew of other kiddies.

My new goal, inspired by Korchnoi, is to still remember how to move the pieces by age sixty.

I just want to be a good chess player who can win against the average chess player. I want to attain a rating of at least 1600.

 I am more ambitios: my target is 2000 and i'm just 13 so there's time...

There are games out there, such as a Scrabble card game for player ages of 8+.  To think that there are kids at 8 that can master the complexities of a game like chess, dumbfounds me.
