am i the only one who suffers a flapping heart when the screen blanks out and you wait to discover your opponent's answer to your last move? am i? i like to think that they also feel the same fear and trembling when their screen blips...the same goes for "real" chess - the guy you're playing suddenly reaches for a piece...no!!! i love the game but man it freaks me out!!

It's called being competitive and unsure of your chess abilities/previous moves. I'm that way sometimes:-D  Try not to be to competitive all the time...chess usually relaxes me.

I'm that way sometimes, especially against stronger players, I feel like no matter what I do or what position I'm in that they have some evil plan that will screw me

That's 'cause they do.  Anyone rated over 2000 is evil.

I always feel more relaxed after my first blunder. Until that point I'm thinking, wow, this might be it, I might make it all the way through this game without a.....................oh, no there it is.

Ah, that's better.

After the first one the rest just seem to come naturally.

Joking aside, I feel less stress defending than attacking.

Also, it must be said that the stress levels are not that high, about the same as being on a busy bus with an obnoxious child.

chess can be stressing if ur up against a really good player and also when ur up against a not so good player but they seem to be able to give a good game... so overall i think chess is stressfall at times

The only thing that stresses me out about chess is that I just seem incapable of learning it/getting any better. True, I haven't played much, but that's partly cos i'm so ruddy awful i can't find anyone of my level to play with - well, maybe a 2 yr old but that's TOO humiliating!Embarassed

I suppose I get similar feelings when I play... Like " oh crap, he/she is makin their move, did I miss something, did I make a stupid play and now I'm going to reap the consequences?"  and other times its like... "oh look at that, I got put in check mate, I didnt see that at all." thats when I pick up the computer or board and throw it across the roomYell lol!

I think if i had to quote my most frequent reaction to playing chess - against the computer, no one else will play with me lol - it would have to be "Where the hell did that come from!!!!"  Reckon I'm a hopeless cause. I do have a "talking" chess computer, and when you turn it off, it says Good - BYE with such disgust in its voice!!   So even my chess computer despises me!Cry

haha lol ... that is funny..

as hard as i try and for as long as i try ... i just dont seem 2 be able 2 get it ... i mean i get the moves and i do well up to about my 10 move and then ... my brain just dont seem 2 register ... lol ... after that i slowly lose my pieces 1 by 1 and on the odd occasion i eat one of my opponents... lol!
